I’m a strong believer that pictures should stand on their own, but in cases such as this some words are worth sharing. Just before Kelly was about to walk down the aisle, she got a visit from a dragonfly. While you can’t see the dragonfly here, what you can see is Kelly’s face when she saw her oldest brother. Tyler passed away a few years ago, and his family believes he shows up in the form of a dragonfly. Knowing this, as a surprise to Kelly they put a little silver dragonfly on her bouquet so she would have Tyler with her. But then, as I mentioned, he showed up all on his own, and circled her over and over until she finally started the procession.
In the morning after Jody was in her wedding dress, I went outside where Greg and Tristan had just arrived to say hello. I said to Greg that Jody was looking beautiful. Without any hesitation, hands in the air and a huge smile on his face he replies, “Jody is so beautiful on the inside and out, she’s my gift!!!”. Come their receiving line, each and every guest that went through (almost all with tears and giant hugs) got a glowing compliment from Greg and Jody about how wonderful they were and how beautiful they looked. If everyone treated their partners, friends, family and life the way Greg and Jody do we’d be one very lucky planet. And we are so lucky just to have these two on it in the first place.
After his daughter’s wedding, Robin’s father said to us that when giving Robin away, he understood for the first time how his parents felt when he left India at 18 years old.
While Ema Onawa laughs and entertains you with her noises and activity, Owen Kai is deep in thought and speaks with effort and consideration. It’s hard not to feel like a child yourself as you watch them dream throughout the day. Each face is expressive with wonder, one subtle the other overt. I have a hard time keeping my kisses off of their sweet little cheeks. As Owen’s godparents we have a special place in our hearts for these two kidlets, and we will spend the rest of our days trying to capture what makes them so darling. And not just for their family keepsakes, but for ours. So lucky we were for a summer visit with this Santa Cruz family, in the small town of Almonte, Ontario where their grandparents live.
Meagan and I have talked about her wedding for a long time. She has put so much thought over the years into what she wanted, and appropriately so as she made pretty much everything herself. She and her mother made her beautiful dress, she sewed all the table linens, made the invitations, the favours, the floral ribbons, the ceremony flowers the cake etc. etc. I could go on. The wedding was even held at her family’s house in Kelowna. We were in awe of her talent and dedication to the perfect handmade wedding. But what made this wedding perfect wasn’t the tiny details or the location as great as they were. It was the relationship between Meagan and Dave. Their minister mentioned during the ceremony that none of his couples have done so well in their marriage class as these two. That they had all the right ideals and tools to grow with their marriage and one another. I think this is pretty obvious and i’m sure it has been to their family and friends for years. They’ve got a lot of love ahead of them!
