Sunny & Kirsch

Sometimes weddings signify the beginning of a couple’s life together, the journey that they are about to go on. You watch as the guest and celebrate this start, and dream of the things that will come their way both good and bad. It is a beautiful thing to be apart of that beginning. Other weddings, such as this of Sunny and Kirsch, are less about their beginning and more about the accomplishment of the life they’ve already created. A celebration of survival and strength, and of the relationships both with others and each other, that got them this far. That too is a beautiful moment to participate in. The support behind these two is so strong and their support of one another is to be treasured. I don’t think you could wipe the smile off of Kirsch’s face on that day if you tried, and celebrate she did from start to finish with the people she loves most. I believe it is those people, and Sunny, who allowed her to be as happy as she was and will be. I thank them for giving her the love that she so well reflected back at them, and at us. People like Kirsch remind me to love with every bone in my body, and that when the time comes, celebrate.

Josie & Ian

There was a moment at Josie and Ian’s wedding where I felt like I was standing in a movie. It was in the early evening, as portraits were finished and everyone was starting to mingle around the dinner table and put on their cardigans for the cooler night. It really hit me just how much love was packed into this small island wedding, and how lovely it felt to watch it unfold. This wedding was like a pinterest board come to life only with kisses, laughter and tears. A whole lot of tears. Such a group of friends these two pulled together. I am fairly certain every guest cried at one point over the course of the day, most during their personally created forest ceremony. It’s not every day you are able to be around such an open minded group of people, ALL expressing how much they love the couple. If I could wish something for anyone, it would be that they felt as loved as i’m sure Josie and Ian did on their wedding day.

Rachel & Terry

Over the short course of this summer, we’ve shared a lot of life with Rachel and Terry. We’ve watched them tie the knot (obviously), we supported mutual friends, and together we witnessed the birth of one sweet baby girl. Throughout this time, it’s given Tristan and I the chance to see how well they work as a couple. Much like ourselves, Rachel is the chatty of the two and Terry the quiet pillar of support. I love watching Terry place a hand on Rachel’s shoulder just as she needs it. I love how Rachel smiles and chats and almost bounces in a way, off of Terry’s strong arm. It’s as if they’ve been a couple forever and you can’t imagine them without the other. What a sweet, truly lucky pair.

The Hernandez Family

While Ema Onawa laughs and entertains you with her noises and activity, Owen Kai is deep in thought and speaks with effort and consideration. It’s hard not to feel like a child yourself as you watch them dream throughout the day. Each face is expressive with wonder, one subtle the other overt. I have a hard time keeping my kisses off of their sweet little cheeks. As Owen’s godparents we have a special place in our hearts for these two kidlets, and we will spend the rest of our days trying to capture what makes them so darling. And not just for their family keepsakes, but for ours. So lucky we were for a summer visit with this Santa Cruz family, in the small town of Almonte, Ontario where their grandparents live.
