I’m a strong believer that pictures should stand on their own, but in cases such as this some words are worth sharing. Just before Kelly was about to walk down the aisle, she got a visit from a dragonfly. While you can’t see the dragonfly here, what you can see is Kelly’s face when she saw her oldest brother. Tyler passed away a few years ago, and his family believes he shows up in the form of a dragonfly. Knowing this, as a surprise to Kelly they put a little silver dragonfly on her bouquet so she would have Tyler with her. But then, as I mentioned, he showed up all on his own, and circled her over and over until she finally started the procession.
This was a wedding of high school sweethearts, and families that have known and loved one another for years already. There is a comfort between a pair who have shared all of their formative years together and still have grown in tandem. Bronwynn and Steven are each others best friend. After many years they celebrated their strong bond, supported by all of those who loved them while they grew into the pair they are today.
The love and thought that wedding vendors put into their work is not something to under estimate. During a recent editorial that the women at Verbena Floral Design put together, I looked around a jammed packed room and realized how much talent was working amongst us. There… Read more
You’d be pretty hard pressed to finding someone that doesn’t love working with Vanessa. We’re certainly not the only photographers that rave about her, and i’ve read blog after blog of raving reviews from clients and colleagues. Not only is Vanessa outgoing, hilarious, and full of energy, she is also full of love and gives like there is no tomorrow. She is one of the smartest women I know and I never leave a day with Vanessa not feeling full of joy. There is something to be said about a woman who is not only funny and lighthearted, but equally intelligent and thoughtful. So when it came to photographing her ten year vow renewal, the pleasure was all mine. Of course the pleasure was ‘ours’ as Tristan and I always photograph together, but in this situation I say it was all mine. As when you photograph any friends wedding, I had the special experience of being close to Vanessa from start to finish. She got ready with just me, and her daughter Lily joined us at the end, so all of the emotions leading up to the ceremony we got to share together. It was such a lovely morning that I got to spend with her, my nerves bouncing around at the same time as she. Vanessa always asks what my favourite part of the day was and I always say the morning, selfishly. I loved it, and I love being her friend and her photographer. We’ve been photographing Vanessa’s family now for 5 years, and it just keeps getting better. The more you photograph the more you love, in my opinion. So we’ll share now some pictures from our day in Vegas, where Vanessa and Nick said I do a second time, in front of their closest friends and family. Lucky for us that we should be there too.
Stephanie was one of my first friends when I moved here to Victoria.
It didn’t take long to build our friendship, instead it formed almost instantly. She was also one of the few photographers in school with me that knew they were going to photograph weddings right from the start. And with Stephanie came Kyle, the most devoted boyfriend of any student at the school. He’d pop by in the middle of class with a bouquet of flowers, and jump under the 4×5 cloth to see what we were learning. Obviously years later we were so happy to photograph their wedding, at the Church and State Vineyard here on the island. The catch is that this time I was a bridesmaid as well! A lot of elements fell into place perfectly for this wedding. Their flowers were done by Verbena Floral Design, our absolute favourite florists in the city, and her dress was made by Alidas Gowns. I knew her dress would be beautiful when she described it.. but I was blown away by the quality and intricate detail of Alida’s work. I shed quite a few tears when Steph put on her dress, not knowing at the time that it was the start to a season full of tears (happy tears I promise).
